About Sit Means Sit Reno

Dog training for Reno owners who want a calm, reliable dog in real life — at home, on the trail, and everywhere in between.

Who we are

Sit Means Sit Reno is an independently owned and operated Sit Means Sit franchise serving the Reno area and Northern Nevada, from Sparks and Spanish Springs to Carson City, Gardnerville, and Incline Village. Sit Means Sit was founded in 1998 by Fred Hassen and has grown into one of the largest dog training franchises in North America. Every trainer on our team is certified to the national Sit Means Sit standard. Our team brings 10+ years of experience and has trained 1,000+ dogs.

We’re also home to Lambo, the Reno Aces bat dog.

What we do

Most of our clients come to us for leash pulling, jumping, barking, puppy problems, reactivity, aggression, or anxiety. Our main programs are four-week day-train programs: your dog trains with us during the day and comes home at night, and we coach you in your own home and neighborhood so the results hold up in your real life.

  • Published prices. Our programs and prices are on our pricing page.
  • A guarantee. If your dog isn’t ready by the end of week four, we keep training at no extra charge until the goals we set together are met.
  • Lifetime group classes. Graduates get free group classes for the life of their dog, so skills keep getting practiced around real distractions.

How we train

We use an attention-based system. The goal is a dog that chooses to listen to you, not one that only behaves at home or for treats. Our system uses a remote collar as a communication tool, introduced at low levels and paired with rewards, never as punishment. Dogs with a bite history may wear a muzzle during early sessions for everyone’s safety, and if there is a medical component to a behavior, we coordinate with your vet.

Every dog starts with a free evaluation so we can understand the root cause and recommend the right program, or tell you honestly if we’re not the right fit.
